NORTHERN LIGHTS
There is a good chance of seeing the Aurora Borealis during your stay, even from just outside your cabin door. Some of the trips below also run in the evenings, giving a chance of seeing this amazing natural display if conditions are right
ACTIVITIES
There are many activities to enjoy in this magnificent winter wonderland.
These are easy to arrange with local English-speaking companies
SNOWMOBILE
Organised group excursions take place throughout the week. Trips can last a couple of hours or all day, taking in the fantastic scenery of the forests and fells. Young children are towed behind the leader in a special sled. Drive your own , or share 2 to a snowmobile
Or, it is possible to hire snowmobiles and explore on your own (only recommended for those with experience)
Don't forget your driving licence
HUSKIES
Visit a nearby husky farm. Drive your own sled pulled by a team of huskies
SNOWSHOE TREKS AND WINTER WALKING
Join an organised trip from the village or hire your own snowshoes and explore. There are an increasing number of waymarked winter walking and snowshoe trails in the area
WINTER CYCLING
An increasingly popular activity. You can hire Fat Bikes locally and explore the area on these mountain bikes with especially fat tyres to cope with snowy conditions. There are waymarked trails to follow which pass some of ski cafes and fireplaces.
REINDEER
Visit a reindeer herder and learn all about reindeer husbandry. Take a ride in a reindeer sledge
HORSE RIDING
Ride an Icelandic pony through the local landscape
ANIMAL FARM
Animals, horse riding, short husky trips, children's snowmobiling, tobogganing & more
ICE FISHING or, for the brave, winter ICE SWIMMING followed by a lakeside sauna and a restaurant meal
LAINIO SNOW VILLAGE
Visit this ice hotel set in beautiful peaceful forest. There is an icehotel, restaurant, bar and ice sculptures to enjoy. You can get there by cross country ski trail, snowmobile, or by the village bus service ( usually runs a a couple of times a week)
